ABOUT MYSELF PHILIPP JELINEK

I am grateful to have the best job in the world and to be able to make an important contribution to public health. However, this is just the beginning, because my goal is to significantly increase the healthy life expectancy of all Austrians. The foundation for this should be laid in kindergartens and schools with daily physical activity; only in this way can we maintain our physical well-being and our healthcare system in the future.

MY LIFE PATH

When the stork brought me, no one could have guessed that the boy would one day become Ilse Buck 2.0. However, my athletic streak was already in my blood, thanks to my parents. Neither of them were top athletes, but exercise was a daily part of our household.

At the age of six, my mother enrolled me in a swimming club because of my very strong urge to move. Swimming was my main sport for several years from then on! But that wasn't all: I also played football, tennis, and ice hockey on the frozen Old Danube, as well as running, cycling, roller skating, etc.

After a brief stint at the Gymnasium (grammar school), I switched to the Hauptschule (secondary school), where the main criterion for me was clear: "The football pitch has to be right!"

Whether skiing, ski touring, water skiing, windsurfing, cross-country skiing, motorcycle racing, cycling, running, triathlon and much more: sport and exercise is an important part of my life.

My sporting highlight was certainly the "Ironman World Championship in Hawaii" - a long-cherished dream that came true in 2015 after many setbacks.
